Jones, head of the insurance Department of the American Bank and Trust Company of Suffolk, handing his wallet to his driver just before he jumped out of the car and plunged into James River from the bridge which spans that expanse of water, just after 6 o'clock Saturday night, according to a statement given by Taylor Spain, the chauffeur, to A.S. Johnson, manager of the James River Bridge Company. Mr. Jones had been in poor health for several months. According to Mr. Johnson Spain rushed up to the toll house and reported that Mr. Jones had jumped overboard after handing him his wallet with the remark that he expected to stop by the bank when they reached Suffolk. They had been to Newport News on business, Spain said and on the way back, Jones had appeared preoccupied. With hardly any notice, he said, Jones flung open the car door, shouted "Good bye" and went over the bridge railing. Mr. Jones had been manager of the bank's insurance department since 1919. He was a son of William and Mrs. Nettie Brothers Jones. He is survived by his wife Mrs. Cora Gardner Jones; three daughters, Mrs. L.H. Rawls and Misses Annette and Betty Jones; two brothers, E E. Jones, president of the American Bank and Trust Co., and William Jones; his mother, Mrs. Nettie Jones; two uncles, Lyman and W.E. Brothers, and an aunt, Mrs. W.E. MacClenny. ****************************************************************************** COAST GUARDMEN HELP IN SEARCH FOR H.A.
