(By Telegraph to Virginian-Pilot.) Suffolk, Va., January 28. - [...] LATEST SUFFOLK NEWS MRS. PRISCILLA JONES DEAD Mrs. Priscilla E. Jones, widow of the late William A. Jones, died about 2:15 o'clock this afternoon, aged 71 years. She had been in feeble health since last June and her strength had failed more rapidly within the past few weeks. The funeral will take place at 4 o'clock Wednesday afternoon from the Methodist church, of which the deceased was a member. The pastor, Rev. R.H. Potts, will conduct the exercises. Mrs. Jones had been a church member of many years. The deceased was Miss Priscilla Walters, who was born in North Carolina, but who moved to Suffolk when 8 years old. She leaves on daughter, Miss Anna Jones. She was a good woman, well liked by all who knew her. [...] ****************************************************************************** SUFFOLK. Mr. Mitchell Parker Narrowly Escapes Being Killed - Death of Mrs. Priscilla Jones. Special to The Landmark. Suffolk, Va., January 28. - [...] At 2 o'clock this afternoon, after a long and painful illness, Mrs. Priscilla E. Jones departed this life at her home on Bank street, aged 71 years. Deceased was a lady of many excellent traits of character, a consistent member of the Main Street M.E. Church and had a large circle of sorrowing friends with only a few relatives left to mourn. She was a native of Gates county, N.C., but had lived more than thirty years in Suffolk. She leaves a daughter, Miss Anna Jones, of Suffolk; one sister, Mrs. George Rawles, of Georgia, and one brother, Mr. W.W. Walters, of Gates county, N.C., who resides at the old homestead and is an uncle of Mr. Frank T. Jones, of Suffolk. The bereaved ones have the sincere sympathy of their many friends in their deep sorrow. The funeral will take place at 3 p.m. to-morrow at the Main Street M.E. Church. Jones took place at 4 o'clock this afternoon from the Methodist church. The pastor, Rev. R.H. Potts, was assisted by Rev. Joseph B. Dunn, of St. Paul's P.E. church. The burial was in Cedar Hill. I, 13th VA Cavalry. The only record of his service is a claim made by Priscilla to the C.S. goverment 11 Apr 1864, stating William died in Richmond. They entered into a marriage bond 19 May 1848 in Gates Co., NC. She sold a lot on Bank St. 7 Feb 1900 to Hettie O. (Mrs. W.R.) FRAZIER for $150. ("Virginian-Pilot, Feb. 8, 1900, p. 8) She was a daughter of Simon & Margaret WALTERS. Her father left will 23 Oct 1876, proved 20 Nov 1876, naming her as a legatee. Her brother William Whitmel WALTERS (1846 - 1905) was the executor. He is buried in a WALTERS family cemetery, S.R. 1311, directly behind Green Cemetery, Drum Hill, Gates Co., NC.
