ANNIE D. JOHNSON AND THORNTON ROLLINGS SUSTAIN FATAL INJURIES Mrs. Annie Bettie Davis Johnson, 51, of Sedley died Sunday afternoon and Thornton Butler Rollings of Sedley, 18 year old Courtland High School student, died Tuesday afternoon from injuries inflicted when the automobile in which they were riding with Wiley L. Johnson, husband of Mrs. Johnson, was in collision with truck at Stony Creek Sunday afternoon. Mr. Johnson, who was driving the car, received severe head and chest injuries and was said to be in a critical condition early in the week, although reported as being slightly improved today. All three were rushed after the accident to Petersburg Hospital by residents of Stony Creek, Mrs. Johnson dying en route. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson, accompanied by young Rollings, had driven their son, Willard L. Johnson, a V.P.I. student, to Farmville, where he took the train for Blacksburg to resume his studies after a visit with his parents at Sedley. As they returned, Mr. Johnson and Rollings were occupying the front seat and Mrs. Johnson the rear seat of the car, a 1939 Chevrolet sedan. The collision occurred as the automobile was crossing the intersection of Route 301, the Emporia-Petersburg highway, just at the outskirts of Stony Creek. The truck, laden with sweet potatoes and headed north, was badly damaged, although the driver was unhurt. The name of the truck driver was not learned. The Johnson car was practically demolished. Rollings, the son of Mr. and Mrs. A.T. Rollings of Sedley, died at the hospital, the body being taken to the W.J.M. Holland & Sons Funeral Home here for burial preparations. The body of Mrs. Johnson was also sent to the Holland Funeral Home, both funerals taking place in Sedley. [Annie Bettie (DAVIS; Mrs. Wiley L.)
