Johnson. [Special to The Times-Dispatch.] SUFFOLK, VA., October 5. - Junnis R. Johnson, a member of the Nansemond County Democratic Executive Committee, died to-night at his home in Myrtle, aged fifty years. A mother, two brothers and five sisters survive him. ****************************************************************************** JUNIUS R. JOHNSON Our hearts were strung with grief when on October the 5th, the death angel entered the home of Mrs. Palmira Johnson and claimed for its victim her eldest Junius R., aged 50 years, 11 months and 2 days. On the 5th, when all nature seemed rejoicing in its own loveliness, there were sad hearts, and anxious watchers, gathered in the home of Mrs. Palmira Johnson of Myrtle, Va., by the bedside of her beloved Junius R. Johnson. It was evident to the watchers that the end was near; that the messenger would soon call him home to his Father. At 5:30 in the afternoon the death angel claimed him for his own, and his spirit was wafted into mansions of light. During his illness, many hearts breathed fervent prayers that if it were God’s will he might be restored to health and strength, but God had ordered otherwise; he had finished his work here, and God was ready to take him to his mansion above. We are prone to say poor Junius, but we must remember that although he suffered so much, it was only for a season, and that now he is free from all suffering, and pain, our hearts of out in sympathy to his dear aged mother, sisters, and brothers in this their dark hour and our prayers rise to a throne of grace in their behalf. Junius was a man possessed with so many noble traits of character, he was a member of Park Ave. Baptist Church, Norfolk, Va., he was a good, quiet, sincere Christian man; his life was the same on Monday as on Sunday. About 5 years ago, when his father died, he gave up his position as foreman for Watkins Bros. lumber plant, of Norfolk, to come home and take care of his aged mother and sister. His first thought was always of mother and her welfare; the last words he uttered on earth was for the future welfare of his mother. He was always so anxious to have his brothers and sisters visit their old home and it has been said by them, and will be said, that he was a father to them, as well as a brother. But, as every cloud has a silver lining, so has this. On the other shore stands Junius, in spotless white without stretched hands awaiting to welcome his loved ones home and be folded again in loving embrace: Yes, Junius, thou are gone, And left us lonely here, But thou art gone to heaven, To live in Glory there. While we are weeping. O’er the sacred ground, Thou art gently sleeping Till the trump shall sound. But, bye and bye we will meet you In that better land. And we believe we will know you And will march hand in hand. A FRIEND. Junius R.
