Funeral service for Mrs. Louvenia Beverly Johnson, conducted Saturday afternoon from the residence of her daughter, Mrs. J.R. Ellison, on Linden avenue, was well attended and the flowers, which were numerous and beautiful, were a reminder of the esteem in which the deceased was held. The Rev. S.J. Venable, assisted by Dr. W.W. Staley, officiated. Active pallbearers were her four grandsons, Dr. Rowland [sic; Roland] Ellison, H.L. Gardner, of Suffolk, S.L. Gardner, of Victoria, Samuel Gardner, of Portsmouth, two nephews, John and Charles Manning, of Greenville, William Hurst of Robersonville, W.A. Ellison, of Bell Haven, N.C., honorary pallbearers were immediate friends of the family. Music was rendered by a quartet composed of Mrs. J.R. Vann, Mrs. H.C. Clarke, W.W. Ballard and J.H. Blanchard sang "Asleep In Jesus" and "Abide With Me." She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. J.R. Ellison, Mrs. Fred Gardner, Mrs. C.C. Stophel, seven grandchildren, H.L. and S.L. Gardner, Samuel Gardner, Dr. Rowland Ellison, Roy and C C. Stophel, and Mrs. Henry Shrader of Greensboro, N.C., and Mrs. J.W. Williams, of Monroe, Ala. Relatives and friends who attended the funeral were B.A. Beverly, Mrs. P.G. Dennis, Miss Mollie Manning, Charlie and John Manning, Mr. and Mrs. S.L. Gardner, Benner and Hortense Gardner, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Gardner, Margaret and Lillian Gardner, Mrs. George Phelps, Mr. and Mrs. C.A. Roberson, Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Ellison, Robert Clarke.
