All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ LOU EMMA JOHNSON Mrs. Lou Emma Johnson, a member of a prominent Nansemond County family, died at a hospital in Suffolk, May 6, at about 1:40 p.m. She was born at the family homestead at Myrtle, July 20, 1863, and was the daughter of James P. Johnson and his wife, Palmyra C. Person Johnson. On December 8, 1881*, she was married to her cousin, John Aaron Johnson, and they made their home in the vicinity of Suffolk. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. Emma Lee Gardner, Victoria; Mrs. Myra J. Carson, Caropolis, Penn.; J. Maywood Johnson, Sedley; Lewis R. Johnson, Suffolk, and Mrs. Anona J. Howell, Suffolk; 3 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters; S. Bruce Johnson, Revedy Johnson and Mrs. Antonia Rose of Portsmouth and Mrs. Gypsy J. Wright of Suffolk. Her funeral was held Monday afternoon, May 9, at 3 o’clock at the West End Baptist Church with Rev. Samuel T. Habel and Dr. H.J. Goodwin pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. The pallbearers were: F.J. Oliver, A.C. Hingerty, J.R. Ellison, Jesse Williams, H.H. Powell, M.L. Bowden, James T. Shephard, and John Henry Powell. Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Lou Emma (JOHNSON; Mrs. Jno.
