Auto Accident Victim Saturday Funeral Service Set For Ryland Johnson Funeral services for Ryland Frank Johnson, Jr., 23-year-old Suffolk National Guardsman killed early Wednesday south of Portsmouth when he was pinned under his car while attempting to make repairs, have been set for Saturday. Johnson, returning to Camp Pendleton from Suffolk late Tuesday night, reportedly had tire trouble near the intersection of routes 13 and 17. State Trooper J.D. Savage said that he noticed Johnson's car pull to the shoulder of the highway about 11 p.m. A Navy Shore Patrol unit discovered Johnson pinned under the car at shortly after 1 a.m. A specialist third class in the Army National Guard, he was on his way back to Camp Pendleton, Virginia Beach, to rejoin Battery A, of the 129th AAA Battalion, when the accident occured. The son of Ryland F. Johnson, Sr., and Mrs. Martha Gray Johnson of Kimberly, Johnson lived on the North Carolina highway south of Suffolk. He was employed by Smith's Auto Repair in Suffolk and was a member of the First Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Donna Lou Raney [sic; Ramey] Johnson; s son, Frankie Lee Johnson, and one sister, Mrs. Ernest Kritzer [sic; Critzer] of Suffolk. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at the I.O. Hill Funeral Home by the Rev. J.C. Mitchell, pastor of the First Baptist Church, and the Rev. Ellis N. Clark, pastor of the Cypress Chapel Christian Church. Burial will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery. ****************************************************************************** Johnson Rites Saturday Funeral services for Ryland Frank Johnson Jr. were conducted Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Hill Funeral Home by the Rev. John C. Mitchell, pastor of the First Baptist Church, and the Rev. Ellis N. Clark, pastor of Cypress Chapel Christian Church. Burial was in Holly Lawn Cemetery with military rites at the graveside. Mrs. Claudia Jacobs played an organ solo entitled, "Sunrise." The casket was covered with a pall of red carnations and Easter lilies. Pallbearers were Jethro H. Piland, John D. Parr, Ocie L. Miroe Jr., Ruben K. Byrd, Robert D. Lassiter, William H. Byrd, William E. Moore, and George A. Willis.
