All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ JOSIAH JOYNER DEATHS Josiah Joyner, 84, a well-known citizen of this county and a Confederate veteran, died Friday night at his home near Suffolk. He is survived by five children, W.H., R.H., J.E. and J.B. Joyner, of Nansemond County, and Mrs. John Hargrave, of Suffolk, and his wife, Mrs. Nancy Joyner, and a number of grandchildren. Mr. Joyner was a member of the Tom Smith Camp of Confederate Veterans. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock at Bethlehem Christian Church, by Rev. H.H. Butler and Dr. W.W. Staley. Interment will be in the church cemetery. D.Cert. 1910 (Chuckatuck #22) He served as a private in Co. E (2nd), 6th VA Infantry. He was shot in the hand and the bullet remain embedded for life. He was captured 19 Aug 1864 at Globe Tavern on the Weldon R.R., and exchanged 14 Mar 1865. [CSR gives captured at Deep Bottom - a simultaneous action.] His widow applied for a pension 5 Mar 1923.
