Moses Joyner, well-known Suffolk citizen, succumbed at 10:20 last night to the paralytic stroke which he suffered Tuesday morning. He died without regaining consciousness from the attack. Funeral services have been set for tomorrow afternoon at 3 o’clock. Service will be conducted at the Main Street Methodist Church, with the Rev. H.P. Clarke, of Portsmouth, the Rev. Dr. W.W. Staley and the Rev. C.E. Pleasants, pastor of Oxford Methodist Church, in charge. Interment will be made in Cedar Hill cemetery. Mr. Joyner is survived by his wife, Mrs. Martha Tucker Joyner; a son, Upshur Joyner; two brothers, Davis Joyner, of this city, and Elihu Joyner, of Norfolk; two sisters, Mrs. J.F. Williams, of Courtland, and Mrs. R.L. Hancock, of Newport News. Mr. Joyner had been connected with J.M. Butler & Son in the capacity of auditor for eleven years. He worked the day before the attack of paralysis. He was 57 years of age at the time of his death. Mr. Joyner was actively identified with the affairs of the Methodist Church. He held membership in the Main Street congregation and Sunday school during all of his adult life. ****************************************************************************** Funeral Services MOSES JOYNER Funeral services for Moses Joyner were held yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Main Street M.E. Church, conducted by Dr. H.P. Clark, Dr. W.W. Staley, the Rev. C.E. Pleasants and the Rev. A.P. Thompson. Members of the church choir rendered the hymns, "The Old Rugged Cross," [and] "Rock of Ages," accompanied by Mrs. Julian Goodwin. There were many beautiful floral tributes; the casket was covered with a beautiful blanket of red roses and fern. Active pallbearers were James Butler, Frank E. Butler, Henry Crocker, G.L. Cooke, F.J. Oliver, F.S. Drake, E.M. Garner, J.H. Bangley. Friends of the family acted as honorary pallbearers. Interment was in Cedar Hill cemetery.
