He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Clarence Jernigan, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Jernigan, of Elwood; two sisters, Mrs. T.A. Simpson, of Hampton, Mrs. Lee Byrd, of Elwood; four brothers, L.L. Jernigan, of Gates, N.C., C.C. Jernigan, of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., J.P. Jernigan, of Suffolk, and R.H. Jernigan, of Franklin. Funeral services will be held at the residence near Elwood at 2:30 o'clock, Sunday afternoon, conducted by his pastor. Interment will be made in the family cemetery near Elwood. ****************************************************************************** CLARENCE JERNIGAN Funeral services for Clarence Jernigan were held Sunday afternoon at the residence at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Dr. N.G. Newman. The casket was covered with a pall of lilies and ferns. Active pallbearers were Robert Stanley Harrell, W.H. Howell, Hendrick Goodman, Harry Babb, Glenn Hudgins, John Wyatt, Harvey March and T.E. Ellis. Honorary pallbearers were friends of the family. Burial was made in the family cemetery. D.Cert. 4468 (Holy Neck #3) gives Clarence E. JERNIGAN, Jr., although his father's name was Charles. It is barely legible, due to the registar's scrawl, and the surnames are misspelled. The 1900 Census - Holy Neck, Nansemond Co. - gives b. Apr 1898. His WW-I draft card gives b. 15 Jun 1898. He m. Ballie McCLENNY, daughter of Robert Riddick & Louisiana "Annie" McCLENNY, 20 May 1925, in Holland. (Nan.Co. #129) Ballie 2m. Benjamin Joseph FOWLER, Sr., 13 Mar 1934, in Suffolk. (Nan.Co. #67) They are buried in Holly Lawn Cemetery, Suffolk. His parents, "Charlie" Charles Eley & "Sallie" Sarah B. (PIERCE) JERNIGAN, are marked in Holly Lawn Cemetery, although Charlie's D.Cert. 50-004065 (Holy Neck #1) gives buried in the family cemetery, Nansemond Co.
