KELLY DIES AT HOSPITAL Jacob H. Kelly of Suffolk, a direct descendant of two members of the House of Burgesses, Col. Thomas Godwin and Col. Anthony Holladay, died this morning at Lakeview hospital following a brief illness. He was born November 7, 1859 and was the son of Captain Jacob E. Kelly of the Confederate Army and Lucy Holladay Kelly. Mr. Kelly was the grandson of Captain Jacob H. Kelly and Captain Joseph Holladay. He also was the nephew of Captain Hugh H. Kelly who was Colonel Commandant of the Nansemond Militia about 1835. On November 2, 1890*, he was married to Miss Mamie Brothers of Nansemond County, she died in 1923. He is survived by five children; Jacob H. Kelly, Jr., of Great Bridge, Patrick H. Kelly of Hertford, N.C., Mrs. Harry E. Shea of Suffolk, Mrs. Julian T. Daughtrey of Portsmouth, Mrs. Edgar E. Rawls of Norfolk and Mrs. Mamie E. Kelly of Suffolk. Also four grandchildren, Jacob H. Kelly, III of New York, Patrick H. Kelly, Jr., of Hertford, N.C, Miss Mary Louise Kelly of Great Bridge and Julian K. Daughtrey, Jr., of Portsmouth who is now stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas. Also one sister, Mrs. Roderick M. Thomas of Coral Gables, Fla., one nephew Carol K. Goodrich of Smithfield and one niece, Mrs. Polland English of Richmond. In his youth, Mr. Kelly worked for the Norfolk and Southern Railway and later with Ballard and Smith, until failing health forces him to retire. Funeral arrangements are being made with R.W. Baker Funeral Home and will be announced later. "Holliday" in orginal corrected to "Holladay" throughout.
