Kilby, Suffolk Native Dr. Clinton Maury Kilby, 73, professor of Physics and Astronomy at Randolph- Macon Women's College since 1910, died early this morning after several years of ill health. Dr. Kilby was the son of the late Wallace and Margaret Tynes Kilby of Suffolk, where he was born and raised. He was educated at Randolph College, Ashland, and received his Ph.D. at Johns Hopkins University. He also studied at Columbia University and the University of Chicago. He had formerly taught at Woodberry Forest and been an instructor at Leigh University, Randolph-Macon College and Johns Hopkins University, before going to Randolph-Macon Women's College as head professor of the Physics Department. He was a member of Main Street Methodist Church and was the author of a number of books on physics and is listed in Who's Who in America. Dr. Kilby retired several years ago because of failing health. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Jean Graham Kilby of Lynchburg; a sister, Mrs. G. Lloyd Bell of Suffolk; a nephew, Wallace Kilby Brown of Richmond; a niece, Mrs. Norment Alden of Washington, D.C. He had a number of cousins in Suffolk and the surrounding community. The body will be brought to Suffolk Monday and burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery Monday afternoon. The hour of the services will be named later. His parents are buried in the same lot. D.Cert. 5397 (Lynchburg #153) His father (1843 - 1899) was a Confederate veteran, having served as a private in Co. B, 16th VA Infantry. His father-in-law, Judge Samuel Cecil GRAHAM (1846 - 1923) was also a Confederate veteran, having served as a private in Co. I, 16th VA Cavalry. He is buried in Jeffersonville Cemetery, Tazewell, Tazewell Co.
