KILBY, SUFFOLK NATIVE, DIES IN NORFOLK Was Prominent In Banking Circles of Latter City and Brother of Bradford and Miss Hilah Kilby; Buried Here Today. John Richardson Kilby, prominent banker and brother of Bradford and Miss Hilah Kilby, of this city, died at his residence, 1114 Graydon avenue, Norfolk, yesterday morning at 8:45 o'clock. Mr. Kilby was born in Suffolk in 1880, but has made Norfolk his home for about 24 years. He received his degree at Randolph-Macon College and studied at Bryant and Stratton Business College, Baltimore. He then accepted a position as assistant cashier with the National Bank of Commerce, in Norfolk. Later he identified himself with the First and Citizens' National Bank of Elizabeth City, N.C., and from there returned to Norfolk to become associated with the Norfolk Clearing House Association here he remained two years. From this post he was elected vice-president of the Virginia National Bank, which office he held to the time of his death. Mr. Kilby was a member of the Masons, Shrine and Knights Templar. He was a son of the late Wilbur J. and Harriet Brown Kilby. [He is survived by his wife, Mrs. "Nellie" Halsey Kilby]; one daughter, Mrs. Herbert S. Duckworth, and two grandchildren, Eloise Kilby Duckworth and John Albert Duckworth, all of Norfolk, and one sister, Miss Hilah Kilby, and one brother, Bradford Kilby, of Suffolk. Funeral services will be held at the residence this afternoon at 3:30 o'clock, and will be conducted by the Rev. Ruffin E. Jones, D.D., rector of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. Interment will be in Cedar Hill cemetery at about 5 o'clock this afternoon. Those who will bear the casket are W.B. Wyatt, Jr., Ed Hill, Alvin Howell, W.F. Cummings, Ralph Drewry, M.E. Walker, Melvin Payne and Lewis Bress. The honorary pallbearers are H.G. Whitehead, A.W. Brock, John H. Rogers, Chas. L. Kaufman, Toy D. Savage, M.T. Blassingham, R.S. Cohoon and J.B. KILBY BURIED NORFOLK, May 19. -(AP)- Funeral services for John Richardson Kilby, prominent banker and active in various fraternal organizations who died yesterday morning, were being conducted at the residence, with Rev. Ruffin E. Jones, rector of St. Andrew's church, officiating. Burial was in Cedar Hill cemetery with Masonic rites accorded at the grave. Mr. Kilby had been in ill health for more than a year and a half, his death occuring after an illness of two weeks.
