King Succumbs at 42 Herman Smith King, 42, of 328 E. Pinner St., died unexpectedly today [sic*] at 12:05 a.m. [sic*] at the Louise Obici Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the I.O. Hill and Co. Funeral Home by the Rev. George S. Lightner, pastor of the Main Street Methodist Church. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. A son of the late John J. King and of Mrs. Eva King Wilson, of Gates County, N.C., he was a veteran of World War II, a member of the Main Street Methodist Church and its McLemore Bible Class, and of the United Commercial Travelers. Until the time of his death he was a salesman for Joel E. Harrell and Sons, Inc. Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Gladys Scott King, and a son, James (Peter) King, of Suffolk; two sisters, Mrs. J.W. Keinsey of Norfolk and Mrs. Elton Taylor of Gates, N.C.; and five brothers, R.P. King of Portsmouth, John J. King, USA, Thornton H. King, USA, B.H. King, USN, and S.W. King, USCG.
