All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ MARY EMMA CRUMP KING Suffolk, April 18 - Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Emma Crump King, widow of John King and well known resident of Suffolk, who died at Lakeview Hospital on Saturday night after a long illness were held this afternoon at 4 o’clock at the Suffolk Christian Church of which she was a member and active worker for many years. Dr. John G. Truitt, pastor, was assisted in the service by Dr. A.L. Franklin of Main Street M.E. Church. Burial was in the King lot in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The casket was covered in a pall of Easter Lilies, pink roses and lilies of the valley and there were many handsome floral designs among them floral tributes from the Suffolk Social Club of which she was president the Woman’s Home and Foreign Missionary Society, The Eastern Virginia Christian Woman’s Missionary Conference, the Ladies Benevolent and Social Union of the Suffolk Christian Church, and the Sans Souck Literary Club, groups of the organization of which Mrs. King was a member attended. The hymns "Abide with Me", "How a Firm Foundation" and "There is a Land that is Fairer Than Day" were sung by the choir of the church. Mrs. King was the daughter of the late Ocie and Mattie Beaman Crump of Nansemond and Isle of Wight counties. She is survived by a sister, Zaldee Crump, her devoted companion for many years, a number of cousins, and nieces and nephews by marriage. She was prominent in church, social and civic work, and was president of the Woman’s Home and Foreign Missionary Society, the Suffolk Social Club and district superintendent of Nansemond-Gates-Franklin Eastern Virginian Woman’s Conference of the Christian Church and was a member of the Ladies Benevolent and Social Union of the Christian Church. She was also a member of the Woman’s Club and the Silver Cross Circle of the King’s Daughters. Pallbearers were W.V. Leathers, H.T. Ramsey, Marshall Andrews, C.J. Dennis, Jr., J.C. Causey, Jr., W.J. Cohen, Dr. F. Whitney Godwin and Willie C. King. Honorary pallbearers were friends of the family.
