OSCAR GEORGE KENNEDY

OSCAR G. KENNEDY, OWNED TENT SHOP

   Suffolk - Oscar George Kennedy, retired owner of Suffolk Tent and Awning 
Co., died Jan. 2, 1989, in a nursing home.  He was 78 and lived in the 500 
block of N. Broad St.

   A native of Philadelphia, Mr. Kennedy started his business in the early 
1950’s and retired in the mid-1970s.

   He was a member and honorary board member of Main Street United Methodist 
Church.  He was past president and a member of Suffolk Kiwanis Club and a 
member of Suffolk Masonic Lodge 30 and Portsmouth Scottish Rite Bodies.

   Survivors include his wife, Rachel Wills Kennedy; a daughter, Paula K. 
Bishop of Suffolk; and a grandchild.

   The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral 
Home by the Rev. David B. Leis. Burial will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery. 
Friends may join the family at the residence.

   Memorial donations may be made to the church’s memorial fund or to the 
Nansemond-Suffolk Rescue Squad.
