He was a son of the late Oscar Charles and Emma Kennedy Sr. of Portsmouth. He was a member of the First Baptist church of Suffolk and the Business Men’s Bible Class. For many years, he operated a grocery store on North Main Street near the Virginian Railroad crossing. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Vivian Louise Gardner Kennedy; 2 sons, Oscar Kennedy of Suffolk and Paul A. Kennedy, Jr. of Waynesboro; 4 sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Foering, Mrs. William C. Gimbel and Mrs. Laura V. Bond of Philadelphia and Mrs. Ronald Edwards of Cape May, New Jersey and a brother, Oscar C. Kennedy, Jr. of Philadelphia. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, February 15, 1953 at 2:30 p.m. at the Hill Funeral Home by the Rev. Julian S. Hopkins, pastor of the First Baptist Church and the Rev. R.H. Forrester, pastor of the Main Street Methodist Church. Burial will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers: James Blanchard, Felton Rawls, W.H. Walker, H.S. Savage, E.C. Luke, R. Douglas Parker, L.H. Rawls Sr. and Jack Hassen. Members of the Businessmen’s Bible Class of the First Baptist Church were honorary pallbearers.
