Kendrick, prominent political leader, editor and citizen of this city, who died Wednesday, were held this afternoon at the First Baptist Church of this city, conducted by the Rev. D.H.J. Goodwin, the Rev. Dr. C.H. Daniel, of Richmond, and the Rev. George T. Waite, D.D., of Richmond. A quartet composed of Mrs. Brinkley, Mrs. R.H. Jacobs, J.N. Alexander and W.T. Mathews, sang "Lead, Kindly Light;" a duet was sung by Mrs. V.A. Brinkley and Mrs. Jacobs, "Crossing the Bar," with Alton Howell as accompanist; the choir sang "Abide With Me." The casket had a beautiful pall of sweet peas and Easter lilies. Active pallbearers were Pelham Trotman, G.A. Harris, Clyde Curley, H.F. Howell, C.F. Taylor, C.B. Pond, Marshall Andrews and Jasper Oliver. Honorary pallbearers were Col. J.E. West, Col. E.E. Holland, Col. F.L. Brewer, Dr. O.R. Yates, Dr. J.E. Rawles, Dr. D.L. Harrell, J.M. White, B.L. Saunders, W.G. Elam, J.J. S. Branch, J.T. Withers, W.W. Ballard, S.S. Stallings, Henry S. Eley, W.E. McClenny, Dr. P.A. Ward, J.C. Holladay and H.H. Powell. Burial services were made with Masonic rites, in charge of Suffolk Lodge No. 30, A.F. & A.M. ****************************************************************************** WILLIAM JAMES KENDRICK ATTEND FUNERAL Suffolk, May 6 - Among the out-of-town people who came to Suffolk yesterday to attend the funeral services of the late William J. Kendrick were Dr. Charles W. Daniel, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Richmond; Dr. and Mrs. George T. Waite, Dr. M.O. Burke, Frank T. Crump, Rev. E.J. Wright, all of Richmond; H.D. Kendrick, of Bluefield, W.Va., a brother of the deceased; Chaplain J.B. Earnest, U.S.N., Portsmouth; Miss Fannie Keiling, of Norfolk; Mrs. Alfred Anderson, of Norfolk.
