JOHN THOMAS KERNODLE

   Mr. John Thomas Kernodle, 83, formerly of Richmond, died October 2, 1974 in 
Sanford, N.C. He was the son of the late Peter Jefferson Kernodle and Mrs. 
Louise Nurney Kernodle.  He was a native of Suffolk and an Army veteran of World 
War I. He was a member of the First Congregational Christian Church of Richmond, 
a deacon, and for over 25 years Chairman of its Board of Trustees. He was a 
Mason and a Shriner. He was a 1908 graduate, Magna Cum Laude, of Elon College. 
He was formerly the owner of Central Publishing Company in Richmond. He was the 
Managing Editor of the Christian Sun, only weekly publication of the 
Congregational Christian Church. He is survived by only nieces, nephews and 
cousins. Funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in the R.W. Baker 
and Co. Funeral Home by the Reverends Joseph A. Talley and James A. Beale. 
Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suffolk. The family will be at the 
funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
