LUKE Herbert S. Luke, 67, familiarly known as "Babe Luke," died this morning at the home of his son James Luke, near Myrtle, while on a visit, after a short illness. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Daisy Luke, also one daughter, Mrs. Theresa Carr, and two sons, James Luke and William S. Luke, all of Nansemond county, seven grandchildren, one brother, S.A. Luke, of Nansemond county, and several nieces and nephews. The body was taken to the funeral home of I.O. Hill & Company, where it will remain until 3 o’clock this afternoon, at which time it will be taken to his late residence. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. ****************************************************************************** HERBERT STANLEY LUKE Funeral services for Herbert Stanley Luke were conducted yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the grave in the family cemetery near Myrtle, conducted by the Rev. R.E. Brittle and the Rev. W.V. Carroll. Members of the Bethlehem church choir accompanied by Miss Mary Jones sang the hymns "When the Roll is Called Up Yonder" and "God Be With You Till We Meet Again." The casket wil covered with a pall of Ascension lilies, white chrysanthemums and fern. Active pallbearers were: J.S. Williams, John Henry Powell, D.O. Savage, McGinley Redd, Ralph Johnson, W.E. Godwin, Norman Bosselman, R.W. Nelms. Honorary pallbearers were friends of the family. His father was a Confederate veteran, having served as a private in Riddick's Co., 59th VA Militia, and in Co. I, 1st SC Infantry.
