LOCKE Mrs. Ida Avent Locke, 74, died Sunday at 5 a.m. in her home at 240 Chestnut St. A native of Branchville, she was the widow of Beaty Stapleton Locke and a daughter of Delbrose [sic; Delbrose] Claborn and Mrs. Delia Sykes Avent. She was a member of Branchville Baptist Church. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. William S. Cuthriell of Portsmouth; two sisters, Mrs. Nolle Bolton of Margarettsville, N.C., and Mrs. Lottie Johnson of Franklin; and four grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Cedar Hill Cemetery by the Rev. K. Donald Berg. I.O. Hill & Co. K. Donald Berg. I.O. Hill & Co. Funeral Home was in charge. Pallbearers were W. Delbroe Johnson, Marion L. Tyler, Hugh Daughtrey, John Clark, Roland Howell, Bennett Howell, William Davis and William Nelms. D.Cert. 11843 (Buckhorn #5) gives B.L. LOCKE, burned beyond recognition 6 May 1947, Union Level, Mecklenburg Co.; buried Zion Cemetery, Union Level. They m. 31 Dec 1919 in Franklin; Beaty's step-mother Josephine is given as his mother. (Southampton Co. MB17:577) His parents, Rev. Stephen Willis & Susan Della (SMITH) LOCKE, are buried in Mount Olive Cemetery, Bonifay, Holmes Co., FL.
