All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Wardell Lewis Is Reburied Here Funeral services for Private Wardell Lewis, who died in Africa in May 1943, were conducted Saturday afternoon at the Hill Funeral Home by the Rev. B.A. Riddle. A quartet from the Colosse Baptist Church, accompanied by Mrs. Julian Goodwin, sang "Going Down the Valley" and "That Beautiful Lane." The casket was covered with an American flag, which was later replaced with a pall of red roses and white carnations. Pallbearers were Earl Drewry, George Drewry, George Raiford, Guy Lowe, Harold West, Marvin Hines, Carl Jeter. Burial with military honors took place in Cedar Hill Cemetery. A firing squad from Fort Eustis gave a memorial salute at the graveside. A bugler from Fortress [Monroe] sounded taps. Pvt.
