All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ David Lyon, 61, CG Veteran, Dies in Hospital David Barnes Lyon, 61, of 230 Nansemond Ave., Suffolk, died Thursday at 11:30 p.m. in Kecoughtan Hospital, Hampton, after a long illness. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at the graveside in Cedar Hill Cemetery by the Rev. Mahlon Elliott, pastor of Oxford Methodist Church. The funeral procession will leave the Baker Funeral Home at 1:45 p.m. Mr. Lyon was a veteran of World War I and World War II when he served as captain [in] the U.S. Coast Guard. After his discharge in 1946, he operated a sporting goods business in Palatka, Fla., until his retirement in 1954. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Suffolk. He was the son of Mrs. Elizabeth Ashburn Lyon of 230 Nansemond Ave. and the late David C. Lyon. Besides his mother he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Joann Lyon Sirkin of Mt. Vernon, N.Y.; a sister, Mrs. John E. Austin of Suffolk, and two brothers, William C. Lyon and George C. Lyon, both of Suffolk, and a niece, Mrs. Evelyn Austin King of Norfolk.
