LYON, LUMBERMAN, DIES Suffolk, Nov. 8 - David Capron Lyon, 68, prominent lumber manufacturer of Suffolk, and for many years a member of the lumber firm of Lyon & Dennis, died this morning at his home on Nansemond river avenue after a long illness. Mr. Lyon, who was son of Comfort Barnes Lyon, of Buffalo, N.Y., came to Suffolk as a boy, and was actively associated during his life in this city and county, with its interests. Ill health forced him to retire from active business several years ago. He was a member of Western Branch Baptist Church and a charter member of the Suffolk Lodge of Elks. Besides his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Ashburn Lyon, he is survived by four sons, David Barnes Lyon of Norfolk; George C. Lyon, Wallace P. Lyon, and William Comfort Lyon, of Suffolk, and a daughter, Mrs. John Eric Austin, of Hartford, Conn.; one sister, Mrs. W.B. MacClenny [sic; McClenny], of the county, and a granddaughter, Joan Elizabeth Lyon, of Norfolk. Funeral services will be conducted at the home, Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock, by the Rev. J. Sydney Cobb, pastor of Western Branch Baptist Church, assisted by the Rev. Dr. H.J. Goodwyn, pastor of the First Baptist Church, and the Rev. E.C. Dean, pastor of the West End Baptist Church. Burial with the rites of the Elks, will be in Western Branch Cemetery. ****************************************************************************** DAVID C. LYONS SUCCUMBS TODAY Kingsboro Resident Dies After Long Illness David Capron Lyons, 68, died at his home in Kingsboro at 9:35 a.m., today after a lingering illness. Mr. Lyons, a lumberman, had been identified with the industry in Suffolk and Virginia most of his adult years. A charter member of Suffolk Lodge, 685, B.P.O. Elks. Mr. Lyons was active in the fraternity and in Western Branch Baptist church. Surviving Mr. Lyons are his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Ashburn Lyons, a daughter, Mrs. John Eric Austin, of Hartford, Conn.; and four sons: David Barnes, George Capron, Wallace P., and William C. Lyon, all of Suffolk. ****************************************************************************** Suffolk Funerals David C. Lyon Suffolk, Nov. 10. - Funeral services for David C. Lyon, prominent lumber manufacturer of this city, who died Friday morning at his home in Kingsboro, were held at the residence on Nansemond avenue this afternoon 3 o'clock by the Rev. J. Sydney Cobb, pastor of Western Branch Church, assisted by the Rev. Dr. H.J. Goodwyn, pastor of the First Baptist Church, and the Rev. E.C. Dean, pastor of West End Baptist Church. The Rev. Luther A. Harrison, assistant pastor of the First Baptist Church, accompanied by Mrs. Harrison, sang "The Pearly White City," and "Eventide." The casket was covered with a pall of large cream chrysanthemums and fern. Active pallbearers were C.J. Dennis, Mr. Lyon's partner in the firm of Lyon & Dennis; M.A. Cross, Wallace R. Kilby, James L. Bangley, H.O. Swanner, John Ashburn, Nym Johnson, of Windsor, and Samuel S. Oliver. Burial was in Western Branch Cemetery, with services at the grave conducted by Suffolk Lodge 685, B.P.O. Elks. The membership of the Suffolk Lodge, in which Mr. Lyon was a charter member, attended in a body. ****************************************************************************** MORTUARY DAVID C. LYON Funeral services for David C. Lyon were held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the residence on Nansemond avenue, conducted by Rev. J. Sydney Cobb, Dr. H.J. Goodwin, Rev. E.C. Deans. A solo, "The Pearly White City at Eventide," was sung by Rev. L.A. Harrison, accompanied by Mrs. L.A. Harrison. There were many beautiful floral designs. The casket was covered with a pall of yellow chrysanthemums and fern. Active pallbearers were: C.J. Dennis, W.R. Kilby, M.A. Cross, S.C. Oliver, J.H. Bangley, H.O. Swanner, John Ashburn, Nym Johnson. The Suffolk Elks lodge members attended in a body, were honorary pallbearers and conducted burial rites at the grave. Burial was in Western Branch cemetery.
