LANKFORD DEAD. Another of Southampton county's good Christian ladies is gone. Mrs. Martha Lankford died Sunday at her home, near Franklin, after a long illness. She had been in an enfeebled state for several years, but it was only a week or so ago that her condition was considered critical. The funeral took place from the Franklin Baptist church. The Services were conducted by the deceased's pastor, the Rev. Mr. James. To-day the remains were brought to Suffolk and laid beneath the sod in Cedar Hill cemetery. The Revs. J.F. Dean, of Windsor, Va., and J.F. Love, of Suffolk, read a service at the grave where a goodly collection of friends witnessed the interment. The following were the pall-bearers: W.C. Harrell, A.S. Eley, R.R. Allen, Donald McLeod, R.F. Harrell and A.L. Nelms. Mrs. Lankford was born sixty-four years ago. She was the daughter of William D. McClenney, who used to live in Suffolk, and who is well remembered by some of the oldest citizens. The deceased leaves a husband, Mr. Menalchus [sic; Menalcus], and three children - Mrs. Luther R. Edwards, of Franklin, and Dr. L. Lankford and William Lankford, of Norfolk.
