All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Mrs. Mizell Buried In Cedar Hill Cemetery Funeral services were conducted for the late Mrs. Lillian Vaughan Mizell, of Newport News, at the home of Mrs. J.R. Harrell, 207 St. James avenue at three o'clock this afternoon, with the Rev. J.T. Rowlenson, pastor of the Phoebus Methodist church, in charge of the services. The Rev. Dr. W.W. Staley and the Rev. Dr. H.J. Goodwin assisted in the rites. Burial was made in Cedarwood [sic; Cedar Hill] cemetery. Mrs. Mizelle, a former resident of Suffolk and daughter of Mrs. Miriam Vaughan, of this city, died Saturday night at Dixie Hospital in Phoebus. She is survived by her husband, Joseph W. Mizell, her mother and five sisters, Mrs. C.T. Borden [sic; T.T. Barden], and Mrs. J.R. Harrell, of Suffolk, Mrs. W.H. Bradshaw and Mrs. J.G. Simpson, of Norfolk, and Mrs. Vernon Knight, of Richmond; also four brothers, Marvin, Bruce, Roy and E.B. Vaughan, all of Suffolk. ****************************************************************************** MRS. LILLIAN MIZELL Funeral services of Mrs. Lillian Mizell were held Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the residence of her sister, Mrs. J.R. Harrell, 207 St. James avenue, conducted by Rev. G.T. Rowelson [sic; J.T. Rowlenson], Dr. W.W. Staley and Dr. H.J. Goodwin. A quartette, composed of Mrs. R.H. Jacobs, Mrs. Randolph Chapman, Mrs. Crays and A.L. Herrick, accompanied by Alton Howell, rendered the selections, "Sometime We'll Understand." Mrs. J.L. Crays sang "Face to Face" as a solo. There were many beautiful floral tributes, and the casket was covered with a beautiful pall of white carnations. Active pallbearers: A.C. Dore, Sam Hutchins, James Woodward, Tom Duke, J.A. Channell, Lynn Evans, C.A. Ragsdale, A.L. Herrick. Friends of the family acted as honorary pallbearers. Interment was made in Cedar Hill cemetery.
