"Hodges Council of Virginia and Descendants," p. 38, states that his mother Mary DEANS (1775 - 1859), daughter of Daniel & Judith DEANS of NC, 1m. Elijah McCLENNY & 2m. James McCLENNY. Note that there was another, contemporary James M. McCLENNY, who entered into a marriage bond 18 Nov 1833 with "Winney" Winifred BEAMAN. (Southampton Co. M.Reg. p. 443) Their son James Madison McCLENNY (1844 - 1912) was a Confederate veteran, having served as a private in Co. B, 9th VA Infantry; he is buried in the McCLENNY family cemetery on Johnsons Mill Rd., Sedley.
