Mrs. Katie L. McClenny, wife of Dan McClenny, died Saturday afternoon at 5:45 o'clock at her home 413 Jackson Street, after a long illness, aged 39 years. Besides her husband she is survived by three children - one daughter, Mrs. M.F. Gilliam of Suffolk, two sons, D.R. McClenny, and W.A. McClenny of Suffolk, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Wilson of Nansemond County, three sisters, Mrs. G.A. Smith, of Suffolk, Mrs. E.B. Dale of Craddock, Va., Mrs. P.H. White, of Nansemond county, one half-sister, Mrs. Susie Litchfield, of Knots Island, N.C., two brothers, J.C. Wilson of Newport News, Va., and W.A. Wilson, of Norfolk, also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held this afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Suffolk Christian church conducted by the Rev. John G. Truitt. Interment was in Cedar Hill cemetery. ****************************************************************************** KATHERINE "KATE" WILSON McCLENNY Suffolk, Oct. 23 - Funeral services for Mrs. Katie McClenny, wife of Dan McClenny, who died Saturday afternoon, were held this afternoon at the Suffolk Christian Church, conducted by the Rev. John G. Truitt. A quartet choir composed of W.W. Ballard, R.A. Harrell, Mrs. W.R. Chapman and Mrs. Vernon Holland, accompanied by Mrs. Eliose Crocker Wallace, sang, "How Firm a Foundation," "Abide with Me" and "Angels of Jesus." The pall was of Ascension lilies and roses. Active pallbearers were James Copeland, Shelton Holland, Ashley and Randolph Miles, Adolphus Jones, Tillman Jones, Claude Waddell, Melvin Davidson. Honorary pallbearers were friends of the family. Burial was made in Cedar Hill Cemetery. D.Cert. 21860 (Suffolk #274) gives her mother as Virginia LILLY. The 1900 Census - Cypress Dist., Nansemond Co. - gives b. Mar 1892. Her husband (1884 - 1955) shares a gravestone with his second wife Lillian O'belle (OAKLEY PULLEY) McCLENNY (1910 - 1977); however, she remarried twice and is buried with those husbands in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk. Her parents, Joseph Trotman & Eugenia (LILLY) WILSON, are buried in Block P, Lot 52: http://files.usgwarchives.net/va/nansemond/cemeteries/cedar_v.txt Her paternal grandfather William A. WILSON (1830 - 1891) was a Confederate veteran, having served as a second lieutenant in Co. F, 27th NC Infantry. Her father-in-law Jesse James McCLENNY (b. 1839) was also a Confederate veteran, having served as a private in Co. K, 41st VA Infantry.
