McLemore, who died unexpectedly yesterday afternoon at 2:45 o'clock at her home, 221 Pinner Street, will be held tomorrow afternoon at the residence. The Rev. R.H. Forrester, pastor of the Main Street Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Mrs. McLemore was the daughter of the late Dr. Thomas Jefferson Pretlow and Mrs. Ann Eliza Massenburg Pretlow of Southampton County. She has made her home in Suffolk for the past 51 years and was prominent in church, civic and club activities until her illness 13 years ago. She was a charter member of the Nansemond River Garden Club, an early member of the Suffolk Literary Club and of the Suffolk Woman's Club. She served as county chairman of the Nansemond County Liberty Loan Drive in World War I. She was a member of the Main Street Methodist Church and took part in the planning and building of the present structure. Besides her husband she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Robert Mathews [sic; Matthews] of Norfolk; a son, James L. McLemore, Jr., of Suffolk; four grandchildren, Misses Mary Willis and Margaret Montgomery Mathews, both of Norfolk, James L. McLemore, III, and Elizabeth Warren McLemore, both of Suffolk; a sister, Miss Annie M. Pretlow of Suffolk; two nieces and a nephew. ****************************************************************************** MRS. MARY P. McLEMORE Mrs. Mary Willis Pretlow McLemore, 75, wife of Judge James L. McLemore, died unexpectedly at 2:45 o'clock Monday afternoon, February 6, at her home in Suffolk. Mrs. McLemore was a daughter of the late Dr. Thomas Jefferson Pretlow and Mrs. Ann Eliza Massenburg Pretlow of Southampton County. She had resided in Suffolk for 51 years, and was prominent in the civic, church and club life of that city until she was beset by ill health 13 years ago. She was a charter member of the Nansemond River Garden Club, and an early member of the Suffolk Literary Club and the Woman's Club of Suffolk. In World War I she served as chairman of the Nansemond County Liberty Loan drive. She was a member of the Main Street Methodist Church, and participated in the planning and building of the present church edifice. Besides her husband she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Robert Matthews of Norfolk; a son, James L. McLemore, Jr. of Suffolk; four grandchildren, Miss Mary Willis McLemore Matthews and Miss Margaret Montgomery Matthews of Norfolk, and James L. McLemore, 3d, and Miss Elizabeth Warren McLemore of Suffolk; a sister, Miss Annie M. Pretlow of Suffolk; and two nieces and a nephew. Funeral services were held at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the residence, with Rev. R.H. Forrester, pastor of Main Street Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suffolk. Pallbearers were Thomas H. Birdsong, Jr., William H. Birdson, Hall F. Birdsong, McLemore Birdsong, Ben M. Birdsong, Bogart Pretlow, Burton McLemore and Hennen McLemore. Honorary pallbearers were friends of the family.
