Dr. G. Richardson Joyner was summoned by her husband after the woman was found lying unconscious at the foot of the steps in the hallway, fears that her condition is critical. She is still unconscious, the doctor said. He found that besides a broken nose and wrenched shoulder blade, Mrs. McNally also sustained concussion of the brain. It is not known exactly what time Mrs. McNally met with the accident or how it occurred, but members of the family found her lying in a pool of blood at the bottom of the stairway at 2 o'clock this afternoon. Because of her age, it being said that she is 77 years old, it was thought advisable not to remove her to a hospital. While it is too early to tell what the outcome will be, Dr. Joyner said that he feared her injuries were very serious. ****************************************************************************** Dr. McNally Fails To Regain Consciousness Mrs. Maggie Spencer McNally, who probably suffered fatal injuries when in some manner she lost her footing and fell down a long flight of stairway at her home on East Washington street yesterday afternoon, continues in an unconscious condition today, her attending physician. Dr. G. Richardson Joyner, states. Besides a broken nose and other injuries, the doctor believes she has a severe fracture of the skull at the base of the brain. Mrs. McNally, who is better known as "Dr." McNally, is 77 years of age and this makes her recovery extremely doubtful. She has a slight chance, however, due to her good health and strong physique. No one saw her when the accident occurred yesterday, but it is supposed she tripped and plunged down the steps. She was found lying in a pool of blood in the hallway and was unconscious then. ****************************************************************************** FALL IS FATAL TO WOMAN HERE Mrs. Spencer McNally Dies at Her Home in Suffolk Without Regaining Consciousness After Had Fall. As a result of a fall down the stairway of the family home on East Washington street Monday afternoon, Mrs. Maggie Spencer McNally died this morning at 7:50 o'clock without recovering consciousness after the accident. Her family physician had very little hopes of the aged woman's recovery from the moment he saw her, she having suffered a severe fracture of the skull at the base of the brain besides other less serious but painful hurts. Her advanced age, 72 years, was against her recovery. Mrs. McNally was widely known in Suffolk as Dr. Spencer McNally and had been a familiar figure here for years. She was a member of various women's clubs and had been active in social and welfare work in the city. She is survived by her husband, C.H. McNally, one daughter, Mrs. J.W. Staylor, of Norfolk; two sons, Harry Spencer, of Boston, Mass., and Arthur Spencer, of Miami, Fla.; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild; a sister, Mrs. Ida Springer, of Waverly, N.Y., and a brother, Addison Young, of Pan Yann, N.Y. Arrangements for the funeral will be announced later. ****************************************************************************** McNally Friends To Act As Pallbearers Personal friends of the late Mrs. Maggie Spencer McNally are requested to act as pallbearers at her funeral which will be held tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock in the Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Cedar Hill cemetery. The funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. S.J. Venable, pastor, assisted by the Rev. Dr. W.W. Staley and the Rev. I.W. Johnson, the latter two having long been friends of Mrs. McNally, who died early yesterday morning from the effects of injuries sustained when she fell down a flight of stairway at the family home on East Washington street. ****************************************************************************** Funeral Rites For Dr. McNally Held The funeral services of Mrs. Maggie Spencer McNally, were conducted Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Presbyterian Church, by the Rev. S. Burnell Bragg, a Norfolk attorney, yesterday qualified before the clerk of the city court as executor of the estate of the late Mrs. Maggie Spencer McNally, whose will was admitted to probate. The bond required $1,000, indicates that the personal estate is small. The will was drawn June 9, 1926, and the signature was witnessed by Mr. Bragg and L.B. Cox. After making several small bequests to members of her family she leaves the residue of her estate, both personal and real, to be equally divided between her son, Arthur Spencer, and her husband, Charles Henry McNally, who is reported today as seriously ill in Lakeview Hospital with slight chances of his recovery. After directing that all of her debts and funeral expenses be paid she directs that a joint tombstone to the memory of herself and husband, not to cost less than $500, be erected at her grave, saying that "It is my desire that my husband, Charles Henry McNally, be buried beside me and that this tombstone be to both our memories." To Pearly Staylor, wife of Jesse Staylor, she leaves $250 and to her son, Arthur Spencer, the sum of $500. She directs that all her personal property, including money in bank, be divided equally between her son and husband. Provisions are made for the disposal of her estate in case of the death of her husband and son, in which event it shall revert to the children of Arthur Spencer. It had been generally believed that Mrs. McNally, known as "Dr." Maggie Spencer McNally, had amassed a large estate, but the report of the executor does not bear this out. It is known that she disposed of her East Washington street home to her son before her second marriage some years ago.
