M'NAMARA'S FUNERAL TODAY Former Resident of Suffolk Where She Spent Her Early Life Succumbs In North Carolina Following Surgical Operation. Funeral services for Mrs. Evelyn Brown [sic; Browne] McNamara were held this afternoon at the grave in Cedar Hill cemetery. Mrs. McNamara was a well-known resident of this city and member of a very prominent family. She was the daughter of John Allen Brown, a former member of the House of Delegates. She died after a few weeks' illness, following an operation for appendicitis at her home in Lumberton, N.C. Mrs. McNamara was a native of Alabama but came to Suffolk in her childhood, spending her early life in this city, where she has a wide circle of friends and acquaintances. She was a member of the Lumberton Episcopal Church, and until her illness was very active in the work of the church and its many activities. She was always ready and willing to render a helping hand. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. John Knox and Miss Rachel McNamara, both of Lumberton, two sisters, Mrs. William Bradford Lawrence, of Suffolk, and Mrs. Raymond O. Joly of Philadelphia, a niece, Miss Josephine Lawrence, of Suffolk, and two nephews, Leonard and Allen Jolly, of Philadelphia. The remains arrived in Suffolk this morning on the Atlantic Coast Line Railway and were taken to the home of Mrs. William B. Lawrence on West Washington street. Funeral service was conducted by the Rev. Herbert N. Tucker, rector of St. Paul's P.E. Church. Pall bearers were: A.T. Holland, J.C. West, Col. J.E. West, C.L. Lewis, H.M. Butler, W.E. (JONES) BROWNE. Her father was a Confederate veteran, having served in the 8th AL Volunteers as a sergeant. Her husband (b. 2 Dec 1862, Haverhill, Essex Co., MA) was a watchmaker. They m. 27 Jun 1888.
