CLARENCE MATTHEWS* 

Clarence Matthews, Local Bookkeeper, Succumbs at 49 

   SUFFOLK---Clarence Matthews, 49, bookkeeper for the Kinsey Electric Company, 
died today at 4:40 a.m. at the Obici Memorial Hospital after a short illness. 
He lived at 214 Chestnut St.

   Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Hill Funeral 
Home by Dr. George D. Alley, pastor of the Suffolk Christian Church.  Burial 
will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

   He was the son of the late George and Ada Joyner Matthews of Suffolk.

   He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. William Mullen of Tunis, N.C. and Mrs. 
Ray Lowrimore of Norfolk; two brothers, Willard Lee Matthews  and Earl Thomas 
Matthews of Suffolk and a niece and nephew.
