Main St., died Monday morning at the Lane Nursing Home after a long illness. He was a son of Thomas and Katherine Boothe Matthews of Nansemond County, and a member of the First Baptist Church. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Margaret Hobbs Matthews; a daughter, Mrs. Thomas E. Parker, of the home; two sons, Norman R. Matthews of Langley Air Force Base and Jesse Thomas Matthews of Tokyo, Japan; three sisters, Mrs. Ruth Collins and Mrs. Walter Creekmore of Portsmouth and Mrs. Roney Ashley of Nansemond County; a brother, Dan Matthews of Portsmouth, and two grandchildren, Luellen Matthews, Langley Air force Base, and James Edward Matthews of Tokyo. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Hill Funeral Home by the Rev. John C. Mitchell, pastor of the First Baptist Church, and the Rev. Herbert P. Hall, pastor of the Whaleyville Methodist Church. Burial will be in Cedar Hill cemetery.
