JULIA P. JOHNSON MATHEWS

   Suffolk, May 14 - Mrs. Julia P. Mathews, wife of J.B. Mathews, of near 
Myrtle, Va., died last night at 11:15 o’clock, after a long illness, age 54 
years.  She is survived by eight children, six daughters and two sons, Mrs. 
Ralph Eley, of Suffolk; Mrs. J.R. Fulgham, of Windsor, Va.; Mrs. G.T. Bowden, 
of Colosse; Misses Helen, Myrtle and Bruce Mathews, all of Myrtle, Va.; J.R. 
Mathews, of Portsmouth, and John B. Mathews, Jr., of Myrtle; four sisters, 
Mrs. L. Rose, of Portsmouth; Mrs. John A. Johnson, of Suffolk; Mrs. L.R. 
Goulder, of Richmond; Mrs. R.A. Wright, of Nansemond County; two brothers, 
S.B. Johnson and Reverdy Johnson, of Portsmouth; four grandchildren, and 
several nieces and nephews.

   The funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. A.W.H. Jones, assisted 
by the Rev. S.T. Cobb, Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the Western Branch 
Baptist Church.

   Interment will be made in the family cemetery, near Myrtle, Va.

   Suffolk, May 16 - Funeral services for Mrs. Julia P. Mathews were held 
Tuesday afternoon at the Western Branch Baptist Church by the Rev. A.W.H. 
Jones, assisted by the Rev. S.T. Cobb.

   Active pallbearers were P.J. Powell, J.H. Powell, Dempsey Johnson, S.T. 
Kittrell, R.A. Daughtrey, S.L. McClenny, R.L. Eley, S.W. Nelms; honorary, J.B. 
Archie, Thomas Cross, J.F. Saunders, J.J.S. Branch, E.S. Ellis, J.S. Williams, 
M.D. Bowden, J.A. Fulgham, T.A. Eure, J.T. Shepherd, C.C. Eley, D.O. Savage, 
T.A. Saunders, I.J. Saunders, R.L. Daughtrey, R.G. Eley, J.T. Williams.

   Interment was made in the family cemetery.
