Mathews, well-known farmer of this county, near Lake Prince, was found dead this morning by his son. H.S. Mathews, in a farm building near the home, from a self-inflicted bullet wound. Mr. Mathews was 68 years of age. He had gone out this morning and fed the stock on the farm, and was waiting for breakfast, when his son and daughter, who made their home with him, heard the shot. Ill-health, increasing deafness and despondence are given as reasons for the act. The body was viewed by Sheriff E.B. Rawles, and Judge N.T. Gray, who stated that he came to his death by a gunshot wound fired by his own hand. Surviving him are a son, H.S. Mathews; a daughter, Miss Grace Mathews; one brother, J.B. Mathews of Myrtle, Va.; two sisters, Mrs. Annie Lancaster of Norfolk, and Mrs. Maggie Farley of Denver, Col. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Oakland Christian Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. I.W. Johnson. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Robert E.
