Mr. Matthews, who was a well-known merchant, is survived by his widow, Mrs. Annie M. Matthews; a stepdaughter, Miss Myra Vaughan; two brothers, John Matthews, of Myrtle, and Robert Matthews, of Lake Prince; two sisters, Mrs. Nannie Lancaster, of Norfolk, and Mrs. H.C. Farley, of Denver, Col., and several nieces and nephews. Burial services will be conducted at the grave in Cedar Hill Cemetery Tuesday at 11 a.m., by the Rev. Dr. I.W. Johnson, assisted by the Rev. Dr. W.W. Staley and the Rev. E.C. Deans. The funeral procession will leave the undertaking parlors of I.O. Hill & Co., Tuesday morning at 10:45 o'clock for the cemetery. ****************************************************************************** WM. J. MATTHEWS The funeral services of William Joseph Matthews were held Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock at the grave in Cedar Hill cemetery, conducted by Dr. I.W. Johnson, Dr. W.W. Staley and Dr. E.C. Deans. A quartette composed of Mrs. Clarence Harrell, Mrs. Rosa Brinkley, John Eley and Dr. I.W. Johnson, accompanied by Mrs. I.W. Johnson, sang "Abide With Me." There were many beautiful floral tributes, and the casket was covered with a double spray of white carnations and fern. Active pallbearers: Herbert Matthews, Preston Scott, Milton Johnson, Jasper Oliver, Glenry Turner, Carl Giddings, P.A. Kennedy, John Eley.
