CARL BARBOUR METCALF

   Suffolk - Carl Barbour Metcalf, 83, of 23 ½  Highland Ave., a retired 
carpenter, died Friday morning in a Portsmouth hospital after a short illness.

   The native of Licking County, Ohio, was a son of the late Elial B. and 
Alice Geiger Metcalf and a member of Suffolk Presbyterian Church, where he was 
an elder emeritus.

   He is survived by three sons, Lyle A. Metcalf of Newport News, Earl J. 
Metcalf of Hampton and Frank A. Metcalf of Norfolk and a sister, Mrs. Katie 
Metcalf Tinkham of Suffolk.

   Funeral will be conducted Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in Baker Funeral Home with 
burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The family will be at 23 ½ Highland. Ave.
