Modlin Of Colerain, Dead Henry Newton Modlin, 86, of Colerain, N.C., died this morning at 12:30 a.m. at the Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie, after an illness of two days. He was the son of the late Elisha and Joanna Modlin of Chowan County, N.C. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Fanny Modlin, of Colerain, N.C.; four daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Boyce, Mrs. Geneva Jones, Mrs. E.B. Shackleford and Mrs. J.C. McCotter, all of Suffolk; two step-sons, Charlie Overton, of Ahoskie, and Jesse Overton, of Colerain; two sisters, Mrs. Jim Pierce, of Suffolk, and Mrs. Carrie Cornett, of Harrellsville, N.C.; three brothers, Jess Modlin, Beecher Modlin, both of Sunbury, N.C., and Richard Modlin, of Tyner, N.C.; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews. The body was taken to the I.O. Hill Funeral Home, where it will remain until Friday at 12:30 p.m., at which time it will be taken to the Warwick Swamp Baptist Church, Chowan County, to lie in state one hour before the funeral services, which will take place at 2:30 o'clock. Burial will follow in the Holly Lawn Cemetery in Suffolk. His father Elisha MODLIN was a Confederate veteran, having served as a private in Co. FD, 11th NC Infantry.
