Abe Milteer, 77, long an active community leader and farmer of the Bennett's Creek section of Nansemond county, died at his home last night. He had been in bad health for some time. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Emma [sic; Emna] Milteer; three sons, Walter Milteer of Bennett’s Creek; Harry Milteer of Portsmouth and William Milteer of Driver; one daughter, Mrs. K.E. Brinkley, of Driver; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Jack Milteer, of Whaleyville, and Vernon Milteer, of Franklin, and two sisters, Misses Maggie and Julia Milteer, of Whaleyville. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Milteer residence at Bennett's Creek conducted by the Rev. I.W. Johnson, assisted by the Rev. A.K. Lambden. Burial will be at Cedar Hill cemetery in Suffolk. Pall-bearers named for the rites are Hinton Hargrave, Mr. Clark of Portsmouth, W.H. Brinkley, of Driver, H.L. Deans, of Churchland, J.E. Ames, Sr., of Driver, J.R. Carney, T.A. Jones and B.F. Ames, of Cradock. I, 13th VA Cavalry. His paternal grandparents, Abram & Margaret "Peggy" (SIMONS) MILTEER, are thought to be buried unmarked in a MILTEER family cemetery, on Mineral Spring Rd. (Find a Grave Cemetery ID #2468339. His paternal grandfather (1790 - 1838) was a veteran of the War of 1812, having served in as a private in the 3d (Boykin's) Regt., VA Militia. His maternal grandparents, Rev. Jacob Kadar & Ann "Nancy" (LESTER) DAUGHTREY, are buried in a DAUGHTREY family cemetery, on Barnes Rd. Nansemond Co.
