JANE NELMS Suffolk, March 24. - Mrs. Jane Nelms, one of the best known women of this county, 63 years old, wife of J. M. Nelms, died at her home at 10:30 last night after an illness of only a few minutes. Mrs. Nelms was a Miss Lufsey, a native of Petersburg, Va., but had spent nearly forty (sic) years in this county. Besides her husband, she is survived by three sons, R. Wesley Nelms, of the county, Charles W. Nelms, of Norfolk, and Hurley C. Nelms, of the county; four daughters, Mrs. R. H. Joyner and Mrs. J. B. Joyner, both of Nansemond county, Mrs. Claude Luke, of Newport News, and Mrs. Earle Thawley, of the county, and several grandchildren. The funeral services will be held at Bethlehem Christian church, of which the deceased was a member, Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock, conducted by Rev. H. H. Butler, assisted by Rev. E. T. Cotton. Interment (sic) will be in the church cemetery. The 1903 Confederate pension application for "Thomas Lufsley" states that he was then seventy-three, b. Sussex Co., res. Benns Church, IoW Co. [Co. G, 41st Va. Inf., CSA] After the war, he often appears as Jesse T. Lufsey. For instance, his daughter Addie's m.rec. gives dt/o Jesse & Maggie Lufsey. (Isle of Wight Co.
