DAVID ROBERT NELMS 

VICTIM OF PLAYMATE'S GUN IS LAID AT REST 

Funeral Of David Nelms, Who Was Instantly Killed By Companion, 
   Was Attended By Sorrowing Friends. 

  Suffolk, Va., Jan. 12. - David Nelms, the 16-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. 
A.L. Nelms, who was killed by a playmate, was brought to Suffolk on the 12 
o'clock Atlantic Coast Line train and interred in Cedar Hill cemetery.  The 
Nelms boy and a playmate were coming from hunting, and having some shells left 
his playmate loaded his gun and told Nelms to throw up a ball which he had. 
Nelms threw the ball up, and the other boy being a little slow in raising the 
gun to his shoulder shot at the ball as it was very nearly to the ground. 
The Nelms boy, who was standing directly in front of the gun, received the 
whole load of shot.  He died instantly.
