He was native of Isle of Wight County, son of the late James Albert Nelms and Mrs. Mary Gwynn Nelms of Isle of Wight County, a member of Main Street Methodist Church and its Men’s Bible Class. Surviving are one son, Richard Crawley Nelms, Jr. of Suffolk; four daughters, Mrs. Eunice Harrell Butler, Winter Park, Fla.; Mrs. George Lee Gayle, Crittenden; Mrs. Margaret Nelms Eley, Smithfield, and Mrs. Edna Nelms Manlove, Suffolk; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. John S. Vaughan of Windsor and Mrs. Beulah Horton of Smithfield. Funeral services will be conducted at the Baker Funeral Home here 4 p.m. Sunday by the Rev. George S. Lightner, pastor of the Main Street Methodist Church. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. ****************************************************************************** Rites Today For Richard C. Nelms Richard Crawley Nelms, of Suffolk died Friday at 11 p.m. at the Obici Memorial Hospital after a short illness. He was 82 years old. He was a son of the late Albert Nelms and Mary Gwynn Nelms of Isle of Wight County. He was a member of Main Street Methodist Church and the Men's Bible Class of the church. Services will be conducted Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Baker Funeral Home by the Rev. George S. Lightner, pastor of Main Street Methodist Church. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. He is survived by a son, Richard C. Nelms of Suffolk; four daughters, Mrs. Eunice Harrell Butler of Winter Park, Fla., Mrs. Georgie Lee Gayle of Crittenden, Mrs. Margaret Nelms Eley of Smithfield and Mrs. Edna Nelms Manlove of Suffolk; two sisters, Mrs. John S. Vaughan of Windsor and Mrs. Beulah Horton of Smithfield, 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. ****************************************************************************** Rites Held Sunday For Richard Nelms Funeral services for Richard Crawley Nelms were conducted Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Baker Funeral Home by the Rev. George S. Lightner, pastor of Main Street Methodist Church. Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The casket was covered with a pall of white chrysanthemums and red roses. Pallbearers were R. Herman Rodgers, Walter Partin, Charlie A. Bosselman, Charlie C. Clark, Lou T. Haslette, Raymond M. Baird, T.F. Carter, Sr., and Morris J. Luke.
