GLADYS NEAL NEWMAN 

  SMITHFIELD - Gladys Neal Newman, 81, died Thursday, Feb. 2, in Riverside 
Convalescent Center.

  She was born in Emanuel County, Ga., and was a member of Oakland Christian 
Church and a former choir member and teacher of the I.W. Johnson Class.

  Survivors include two daughters, Constance N. Taylor of Suffolk and 
Geraldine N. Sandidge of Colonial Heights; a son, Oliver W. Newman Jr. of 
Smithfield; a sister, Thelma N. Joyner of Windsor; three half sisters, Dorothy 
N. Lanier of Metter, Ga., Louise N. Mullis of Tifton, Ga., and Lenez N. Warren 
of Millen, Ga.; three half brothers, James Neal of Twin City, Ga., B.H. Neal 
Jr. of Metter and Lonnie Neal of Bonaire, Ga.; six grandchildren and two great-
grandchildren.

  A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in R.W. Baker and Co. Funeral 
Home in Suffolk by the Rev. David L. Wilson.  Burial will be in Newman 
Memorial Cemetery.

  The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions 
to the Newman Memorial Cemetery Fund or the American Cancer Society.
