FILLMORE NORFLEET

   Fillmore Norfleet, 84, Suffolk native, died July 21, 1987 in Orange County 
Nursing Home.

   Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Copeland of Charlotteville; his son, 
Robert F. Norfleet of Richmond; his daughter Abigail F. James of Orange; and 
three grandsons.

   He was born July 3, 1903 in Suffolk, the son of Robert J. and Lottie F. 
Norfleet. He was a law graduate from Washington and Lee University where he also 
received a FA degree. He received his master of arts and doctorate from the 
University of Virginia. He also studied at several international universities 
including the University of Dijon.

   He was a member of Phi Beta Cappa, the Virginia Historical Society and 
several other organizations.

   He received the Woodberry Forest Distinguished Service Award. He was a well-
known teacher and geologist.

   He taught French and Spanish at Woodberry Forest School from 1934 until his 
retirement in 1968 except for two brief intervals, one of which during he was 
the assistant professor of French Ferrum College.

   He was the author of "Suffolk in Virginia."

   A funeral service will held Thursday, July 23, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Andrew’s 
Chapel, Woodberry Forest. Burial will be in Richmond at 2 p.m. in Hollywood 
Cemetery.

   Preddy’s Funeral Home in Orange is in charge of arrangements.

   The family respectfully request no flowers be sent.
