NORFLEET DIES HERE TODAY Widely-Known Stockman Succumbs To Long Illness At 11 A. M. Lemuel H. Norfleet, aged 59, died at 11 a.m. today at his North Main street residence following an illness of a year's duration. President of the Virginia-Carolina Horse and Mule Co. and long a partner in the firm of N.O. and L.H. Norfleet, Mr. Norfleet was one of the most widely known stockmen in Tidewater Virginia and Northeastern North Carolina. He spent practically all his adult life in the stock trade. Mr. Norfleet was a veteran of the Spanish-American War, having served as a member of Company P, Fourth Virginia Regiment. He was a member of Main Street M.E. Church and of Suffolk Lodge 685, B.P.O. Elks. Mr. Norfleet was the son of the late Wilson and Mrs. Clara Hunter Norfleet. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Addie Nathalia Oliver Norfleet; three daughters, Misses Clara, Addie and Juliana Norfleet; five sons, Hunter, Elwood, William, Robert and Frederick Norfleet, all of Suffolk; a granddaughter; a sister, Mrs. Julia Kirby; and three brothers, Wallace and Alvah Norfleet, of Norfolk; and Robert H. Norfleet, of Washington, D.C. Funeral arrangements had not been announced. ****************************************************************************** L. H. NORFLEET IS BURIED TODAY Friends and Associates Attend Final Services At 11 A. M. At Late Residence Funeral services for Lemuel H. Norfleet, prominent Suffolk stockman and business man who died Saturday morning, were held at his late residence, 419 North Main street, at 11 a.m. today. The rites were conducted by the Rev. A.L. Franklin, pastor of the Main Street M.E. church, and the Rev. Herbert N. Tucker, rector of St. Paul's Episcopal church. At the graveside in Cedar Hill cemetery, Suffolk Lodge 685, B. P. O. Elks, conducted the burial ritual of the fraternity. The membership of Vaughan-Causey camp, United Spanish War Veterans, attended the rites in a body. There were many handsome floral tributes. Pallbearers for the service were Howard Daughtrey, Lynwood Vann, Dr. O.R. Yates, R.L. Woodward, Jr., Ray Saunders, Roy Jones, Henry C. Barton and E.E. Jones.
