[...] Another aged pilgrim has entered into rest, Mrs. Matilda Jane Norfleet, mother-in-law of Mr. W.H. Barnes, passed away at No. 20 North Street, the residence of W.H. Barnes, December 22, at 9 o'clock a.m., in the seventy-sixth year of her age, having been born May 16, 1819. Nine months ago in pulling a door from the outside the knob slipped off and she fell, receiving an injury from which she never recovered. Since that time she has been confined to her bed; but she was patient and trusted in Jesus so implicitly as to impress all with her sweet resignation to the will of God. Her last words were of Jesus and no doubt she went "to be with Christ." She leaves two daughters, seventeen grand-chil dren and five great grand-children. She leaves the evidence of being a child of salvation. Who can measure the history of such a life? Time is too limited, and earthly measurements too small to compass a human life. Only God and eternity can reach the boundaries of a life devoted to Him. The judgment will be one of vast revelations in the Kingdom of God. "In thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed" is a statement too big for present interpretation. It belongs to eternity to unfold its full meaning. So every Christian life has its influence and bearings on society that must require ages to fulfil. Sweet be the rest of this aged pilgrim. Glorious be the welcome which she extends to those who shall come after her to the new and happy home in the skies. The funeral services were conducted from the Christian church on Sunday, Dec. 23, 3 p.m., Rev. J.F. Love of the Baptist church assisting. [...] Matilda Jane (DARDEN; Mrs. Jeremiah J.)
