JACOB WILLIAM NURNEY

   Jack W. Nurney, 79, died Saturday, December 30, 1978, in Nansemond 
Convalescent Center, Suffolk.  He was a native of Suffolk and the widower 
of Mrs. Virginia Lee Tourtellot Nurney.  He was former Chairman of the 
Board and President of the National Bank of Suffolk until its merger with 
the Virginia National Bank.  Until his retirement in 1964, Mr. Nurney 
served as Senior Vice-President and Chief Executive Officer of Suffolk 
Offices of the Virginia National Bank.  He was a 1920 graduate of VMI. 
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. John P. Harlow; one son, Jack W. 
Nurney, Jr.; one sister, Miss Therese Nurney, all of Suffolk.  A funeral 
service was conducted Monday, January 1, at 11 a.m. at the graveside in 
Cedar Hill Cemetery by Dr. Robert B. Marr.  R.W. Baker & Company Funeral 
Home was in charge of arrangements.  Memorial donations may be made to 
the Suffolk Christian Church Memorial fund, the Nansemond-Suffolk Rescue 
Squad or the Bennett’s Creek Rescue Squad.
