SOLOMON J. OLIVER

   Suffolk, March 5 - Funeral services for S.J. Oliver, Sr., of Portsmouth, 
and native of Nansemond County, who died Monday night in a Portsmouth 
hospital, were conducted this afternoon at Bethlehem Christian Church, by 
the Rev. R.E. Brittle, pastor, assisted by Dr. I.W. Johnson of Suffolk, and 
the Rev. Roscoe Jones and the Rev. Clarke English of Portsmouth.

   The choir sang the hymns, "Abide With Me," and "Asleep In Jesus," 
accompanied by Miss Mary Jones.  Two solos, "Face To Face" by George Nelson 
and "Crossing the Bar" by E. Robie Sturtevant, both of Portsmouth were sung, 
the accompanist being Miss Emma Jean Pitts.

   The casket was covered with a pall of roses and calla lilies.  Active 
pallbearers were, L.M. Byrd, W.H. Shrader, Charles Wilkerson, W.T. Parker, 
Sr., R.E. Gay, D. W. Hall.  Friends of the family served as honorary 
pallbearers.
