Oliver, one of the most prominent and universally esteemed residents of Suffolk, died at his home in Linden Avenue here this afternoon at 6 o’clock after a lingering illness. He was in his eighty-seventh year. He was a Confederate veteran, and was for years active in public life of the county. He was for sixteen years commissioner of revenue of Nansemond County. He was the oldest member of Main Street Methodist Church, and a member of Colonel Tom Smith Camp, Confederate Veterans. He was a native of Nansemond County and had for many years been resident of Suffolk. Captain Oliver is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. J.F. Lawrence and Mrs. Jim F. Campbell, both of Petersburg; and two sons, K.J. Oliver, of Baltimore, and Floyd J. Oliver, of Suffolk; and by five grandchildren. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. [Captain William J.
