Powell, one of the oldest and best-known farmers of Nansemond county, died this morning at 7:40 o'clock at his home on the Pitchkettle road, after an illness extending over two years and which forced him to take to his bed about eight weeks ago. Mr. Powell was born in Isle of Wight county but had long lived in Nansemond. He was never married. He is survived by his sisters, Mrs. C.J. Smith and Miss Mamie Powell, with whom he lived, and Mrs. Martha Oliver, also of Nansemond. Mr. Powell had long been a member of Bethany Christian Church, and while the burial will be in the county, funeral arrangements have not been completed. ****************************************************************************** Hold Last Rites of Late C. W. Powell The funeral of the late C.W. Powell, whose death occurred yesterday morning at an early hour at his home on the Pitchkettle road, will take place Friday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock from Bethlehem Christian Church, of which he had long been a member. The service will be conducted by the Rev. W. Harwood, assisted by the Rev. Dr. W.W. Staley and the Rev. I.W. Johnson, of Suffolk.
